One of the best ideas I have seen at a luxury and lifestyle hotel is a concept called Bedside Reading. Bedside Reading puts books on the nightstands of hotels that go with the theme of where you are staying. The best part is you are free to take them at the end of your stay, so no more leaving half-read books behind, and there is something so special about reading a book on paper. It is a lost art. Bedside Reading is trying to bring it back. I had the chance to try it myself at the luxurious Jacquard hotel in Cherry Creek. There is something magical about curling up with a good book, in a hotel robe with nowhere to be.

Every hotel has different books, so if you are a luxury chain hotel person and travel often (think Waldorf Astorias or Mandarin Orientals), you won't find the same book twice, and if you happen to frequent the same hotel, books are changed out monthly. Genres run from Children’s books to memoirs, fiction, non-fiction and everything in between. The authors range from well known to first publication. This idea was started by Jane Ubell-Meyer, who had a bad trip with a boyfriend in her twenties and made a vow to herself never to leave home without a book again.

This weekend Bedside Reading is hosting the second annual Hamptons Bedside Reading Winter Authors' Weekend. It is a weekend retreat at several luxurious hotels in the Hamptons, New York. It includes cocktail parties, brunch, six books, and the opportunity to meet and talk to the authors of books currently in Bedside Reading. It sounds like a book lovers dream.
